DIY wine charms are a simple gift that can also be really thoughtful. Wine charms help you keep track of whose wine glass is whose when you have guests over! I don’t know about you, but I’ve lost track of which glass was mine numerous times. In this post I’ll be sharing the supplies needed and simple steps to make your own wine charms.

Every year I try to share an affordable DIY gift idea. This year, I’m mostly reusing the supplies I had previously purchased for a DIY charm necklaces post I made last year.
Wine charms can be a fun gift because you can choose a theme. For example, I found a Deathly Hallows charm so I decided to create some Harry Potter charms. I also created a nautical themed one for Luke’s grandma.
Supplies For DIY Wine Charms
- Charms
- Beads
- Charm Rings
- Split rings (optional)
- Jewelry pliers
I purchased this set of charms from Amazon last year which I’ve used for a couple of projects now. There are a variety of charms to choose from in the set. I used glass pearl beads because that is what I already had from other projects as well, here is a set with a variety of colors to choose from.
The split rings are optional, it depends on if the charms you select have split rings on them or not. If you purchase charms from a craft store, they will likely already have the rings. The charm set from Amazon did not come with split rings.
Step One: Select Your Charms
Sort through your charms and select ones that will go well together. If you’re making a set for someone, select charms that remind you of them. I recommend doing four charms per set.
Step Two: Apply Split Rings If Needed
If your charms don’t have a split ring you will need to add them. Open the split ring with your pliers, slip the charm onto the ring and then use the pliers to close the ring.
Step Three: Bend The Charm Ring
The rings I have recommended you use will not be easy to bead since the hook is a 90 degree angle. Use your pliers to bend it slightly to straighten it for easy beading.
Step Four: Add Beads and Charms
This is the fun part! I decided to use four pearl beads and then put a charm in the middle. Technically, you could even make the charms with just the beads and no golden charms.
Step Five: Bend the Charm Ring Again
To hook the wine charm onto the wine glass the hook will need to go back to a 90 degree angle. Use the pliers to put it back as it was.
Step Six: Wrap The Wine Charms
I placed my charms in these little red bags since I had them already. Another idea could be to take a small piece of card stock and punch some holes into it so the charms can hang on it almost like a set of earrings. Bonus points if you were to put a cute little saying on the card like, “It’s the most wine-derful time of the year.”
These charms make a fun gift for anyone who loves wine and entertaining! And everyone loves a gift that they know you made yourself.
Giving these with a bottle of wine to a hostess would be a great idea as well!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this easy DIY gift idea!
