Pearl hair accessories became really popular last year. The hottest pearl hair accessories were the pearl hair clips. I’m still loving all things pearls but I wanted to try out a new pearl hair accessory.

After finding inspiration on Pinterest, I thought I could easily replicate the look. If you’re as obsessed with pearls as I am, be sure to also check out my DIY pearl hoop earrings tutorial as well!

This DIY hair tie will probably take less than five minutes to make!

Materials Needed

To create this pearl hair tie, you only need two materials:

materials needed, elastic and plastic pearl beads

I’ve linked where you can find both of these items on Amazon. The pearl beads I linked have a variety of pearl sizes, I used the largest pearls in the package to create this look.

Steps to Create a Pearl Hair Tie

Step One

First, start with a piece of elastic cord that is at least 10 inches long. It doesn’t matter if it is longer because you will end up trimming the excess cord when you are finished.

Step Two

Begin beading the pearls onto the elastic. Stop when you have six and a half inches of pearls beaded. For me, this was 17 pearls.

Step Three

Knot the elastic and trim the excess pieces. Stretch the elastic to give yourself more to work with to create the knot. I made a loop and pulled both ends of the elastic through it to make a secure knot.

I will admit that the knot is not very pretty. However, if you push it toward the back when you’re styling it, it won’t be seen.

A concern with this DIY hair tie was that it was going to get caught in my hair. But so far I haven’t noticed any issues with this.

My favorite way to wear this is with my hair in a half ponytail. Another way to wear it is as a simple low ponytail!
