Hot Rollers: How To And Review For Long Hair

I wanted to give hot rollers a try since it seems like everyone is trying to achieve the perfect blowout look. I’ve tested this Conair hot roller set many times over the last couple of months. In this blog post I’m sharing the steps I take to use hot rollers and the results on my long hair.

After watching everyone style their hair with the Dyson Airwrap after Christmas, I wanted to try to achieve the same look for less. This is what lead me to try out some hot rollers.

How To Use Hot Rollers

Here are all the items I use when curling my hair with hot rollers:

conair ceramic hot rollers, Aussie hairspray, Briogeo Farewell Frizz

I apply hot rollers to my air dried hair (I rarely ever blow dry my hair). And I applied the Briogeo Farewell Frizz to my hair right before I put on the rollers. Side note, I love the smell of this product.

Here is my natural hair:

My hair is super long right now. I really need a haircut, my ends are not looking the greatest.

When I use the hot rollers I roll them up in different directions, under and over. But I try to make sure the ones near my face roll away from my face. I use the bigger rollers toward the back of my head.

One HUGE issue I have with this hot roller set is getting the clips to hold the hot rollers in place. They like to flip around and it gets frustrating for me. But once I get them in a comfortable position it works.

I leave the hot rollers in for around 20 minutes. As I take out the rollers, I spray every piece immediately with hairspray. A consistent issue I have is getting the curls to hold. Then I lightly comb through the curls with my fingers.

I’m always happy with how the curls look at first! The hot rollers give me volume, which is what I am looking for. However, the curls never seem to hold – even when I spray every piece immediately with hair spray.

Here is my hair three hours later:

This is still better than my natural hair. However, when I curl my hair with a curling iron my curls hold much better. I can go two days without having to re-curl my hair. But, this also involves a lot more heat than the hot rollers produce.

Overall Review of the Conair Hot Rollers

I am disappointed that the curls do not hold. However, I do think this could be because my hair is so long. I’ve also heard similar criticisms of the Dyson Airwrap.

My favorite thing about the rollers is how they make me feel when I wear them. I feel dramatic like I’m a 1950’s house wife and I love it. It’s also nice to throw them in your hair and then do your makeup while you let them set and cool down.

If you are looking to purchase a set, I do believe this one from Conair is the best value for money. It was so popular a few months ago that it completely sold out.

One other note is that you will need a container to store the clips in. I happened to just have this tampon container on hand it works great!
