My New Nighttime Skincare Routine

I have made leaps and bounds with my nighttime skincare routine in the last month. I have never been one to focus too much on my skincare but now that I am in my mid-twenties I am beginning to prioritize it more. In this post I’m going to share the new products I’m trying and what I’ve learned so far in my skincare journey.

If you would have asked me about my nighttime skincare routine three months ago, I would have told you, “less is more.”

A couple years ago, I thought I was having an allergic reaction so I stopped using my cleansers. I only used my Makeup Eraser with water and would use moisturizer. After doing this for a couple of weeks I noticed my acne was non-existent.

I really do think the harsh cleansers I was using to fight my acne played a big part in causing my acne. Of course, my diet is also a factor.

I followed this same general concept of not putting much on my face other than water and moisturizer for the last couple of years. But I’ve started to ask myself what else can I be doing that will be better for my skin and help me prepare to age gracefully.

All the products used in my new nighttime skincare routine

Recently I started following along with some of the skincare gurus on YouTube and I have learned so much. My three favorites are Hyram, James Welsh and Susan Yara from Mixed Makeup. Mixed Makeup is my favorite to watch! I love watching Susan and Sharzad get luxurious spa treatments, it’s relaxing to me.

I do want to clarify that I am in no way an expert on this topic, I am at the very beginning of my skin health journey. The below items are simply my thoughts and opinions.

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

Almost all of the products in my updated nighttime skincare routine are new. I have been using this products consistently for around a month now.

I would consider my skin to be normal. It gets dry in the winter but it isn’t overly oily in the summer. My acne was a big concern for me throughout college and high school, but for the last few years it has been under control. If I have a spot, I usually blame it on me eating chocolate in excess.

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm

A double cleanse when removing your makeup has been highly recommended from the skincare gurus. This is even more important if you use a sunscreen during the day, which everyone should!

Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm, step one in my double cleansing process

This Green Clean Balm is an oil-based cleanser, which sounded absolutely gross to me at first. The thought of putting oil on my face I did not like, but I decided to try it anyway.

So far, I really like this product. I rub it all over my dry face and on my eyes as my first step to remove my makeup. It was astonishing to me how quickly the makeup came off. I’m careful not to tug on my skin during my nighttime routine as well.

I feel like this product just absorbs my makeup right up! I wash it off with the water and wipe my face gently with my Makeup Eraser.

Makeup wipes (such as the popular Neutrogena ones) have not been part of my routine for years. Pretty much consistently among the skincare community people agree that these are horrible for your skin. Instead try something like this Green Clean Balm.

Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser

My next step in my double cleanse is to use this Match Hemp Hydrating Cleanser from Krave Beauty. This face wash is supposed to be more gentle than others and not dry out your skin.

Krave Beauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, step two in the double cleansing process

I use my Foreo LUNA fofo cleansing brush with this product and gently rub it all over my face. This brush was in a previous FabFitFun box. I like it because it vibrates and I feel like it really does a good job at cleaning my skin. The vibration also feels like a massage. This brush is a little pricey, here is a less expensive alternative from Amazon.

But of course, you can also simply apply this cleanser with your hands.

Overall, I like this cleanser but I can’t say I love it. I do feel like it dries out my skin more than I would like. Now that it is getting colder out, I am noticing my skin is drier and feeling tighter after I use this product. I’m always glad to get into the moisturizing process once I am finished with this step.

I will continue to use this product, but I am open to trying out a new cleanser in the future.

Rose Spray

At this point in the process I want to make sure my skin is still damp so I spritz on some rose spray. This is a product I received from a FabFitFun box previously as well.

Grace & Stella rose spray that I received in a FabFitFun box

I haven’t heard anything from the beauty gurus regarding Grace & Stella products and I don’t always include this in my routine, but I still do like this spray and I add it to my routine simply because I think it feels good spritzing it on.

Hyaluronic Acid

Next I add some hyaluronic acid which helps to hydrate your skin. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant which helps to lock in moisture.

Grace & Stella Hyaluronic Acid

The product I’m using is from a FabFitFun box, but I am planning to switch brands once I have used this product. Currently the serum I am using is from Grace & Stella.

The Ordinary is a brand I am hearing a lot of good things about that is more budget friendly. Their hyaluronic acid may be worth checking out.

Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer

Susan Yara loves the Squalane + Omega Repair Cream from Biossance. I wanted to try it out but just as a sample size first. The sample set I ordered was the Mini Hydration Heroes set that came with two products.

Biossance Squalane + Probiotic Gel Moisturizer, part of my nighttime skincare routine

After testing out both, I realized I liked the probiotic gel moisturizer more than than the omega repair cream. It was lighter and the Omega Repair Cream seemed a little too heavy for me. So, I purchased the gel moisturizer in the full size.

So far it is okay. But within this past week I noticed that I feel almost a burning sensation when I apply this product to my face. This didn’t happen when I had the sample size. I’m not sure if I will continue to use this product even though I was completely obsessed with it for the first couple of weeks. I may try out the Omega Repair Cream again.

Retinol

Since I’m in my mid-twenties I am becoming very conscious about aging and preventing wrinkles. Retinol is basically the holy grail of skincare products for this, but it takes some getting used to.

Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream

I am currently using the Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol Cream. I ordered the smaller size to test it out. You should only apply a pea size amount of this product on your face.

It is recommended that you ease in to using retinol. I started using the product just once or twice a week and I’m slowly using it more. I’m currently using it every other night but I will begin using it every night soon.

Jade Roller Face Massage

If I’m really feeling like pampering myself, I will get out my jade roller and give myself a little face massage. I use the jade roller mainly because it feels good but it can also help to work in more of your moisturizing products.

I use the roller a certain way to get rid of lymphatic drainage. Here is a video I like on how to use a jade roller for lymphatic drainage.

Biossance Squalane + Rose Vegan Lip Balm

I always need to add some sort of balm or chapstick to my lips. Right now I’m enjoying this Rose Vegan Lip Balm from Biossance.

Biossance Squalane+ Rose Vegan Lip Balm

It does a good job of moisturizing my lips. I also like to use it during the day because it makes my lips look glossy.

Verdict On My New Nighttime Skincare Routine

So far I’m really enjoying my new skincare routine. First, because I think I’m doing my skin a service to prevent premature aging. But I think what I like the most is that I see my skincare routine as self care.

My new nighttime skincare routine

My nighttime routine is one of my favorite times of the day now. It’s something to look forward to because it’s a time for me to decompress and relax.

And I also love wearing my cute little headband during my nighttime routine that keeps my hair out of my face.

I’ll continue to try new products and see how I like them, but I will use all of the products listed in this post until they run out. The products I am most excited about in the post are the Farmacy Green Clean Makeup Removing Balm and the Drunk Elephant retinol.

I do also want to state that many of the products in this post were featured in Susan Yara’s nighttime skincare routine video which is definitely worth checking out.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments if you have tried any of these products or if there are other products that you love.
